Bodybuilding - The Best Bodybuilding Supplements
By: Shannon Clark
If you're currently on a bodybuilding program and are hoping to achieve a good weight gain, there is no doubt that you've looking into the bodybuilding supplement side of things.
In today's world, there are a wide variety of supplement options that you can choose from, from those designed to enhance your recovery, allow you to workout harder during the workout session, increase your growth hormone release, boost testosterone levels, and add more calories to your diet.
Because of this, many people find themselves confused over which supplement is really going to get them the best results - that is, achieve the greatest potentially to build muscle.
Truth be told, the best supplement is one you already possess.
Carbohydrates
If there is one thing that is going to make or break a bodybuilding diet, it's that of carbohydrates.
While protein will supply the amino acids you need to build the muscle tissue, unless you are giving your body the energy it needs to assemble these building blocks, muscle tissue will not be built.
Likewise, if you are only supplying enough energy to meet your daily requirements to just sustain your current muscle mass, how do you expect to build more muscle?
You won't.
Carbohydrates and Insulin
Another thing with carbohydrates is that certain types will greatly increase your insulin levels. This is good because it will then allow more protein to get into the muscle cells, right where it needs to be.
If you consume insulin spiking carbohydrates immediately following your workout, you will really help to maximize this muscle building period and get the most from your workout sessions.
Carbohydrates and Hunger
Another nice thing about carbohydrates compared with protein or dietary fat is that generally speaking, they do tend to increase the appetite a little more.
When trying to build muscle, this is extremely beneficial.
If you've ever tried fitting in 4000-5000 calories a day, you can likely see what I mean.
This is a big reason why dieters tend to turn to a low-carb approach - it kills hunger. When you want to build muscle though, hunger is your friend because it is what will get you eating more, and in the process being able to gain more weight.
So, next time you're in the supplement store facing walls and walls of fancy supplements designed for bodybuilding, stop and take a look at your diet first.
Make sure those carbohydrates are where they need to be. If they aren't, no other supplement is going to match the gains you would see from simply fixing your diet first.
Once your diet is fixed, then you can look more into the supplement products that are out there.
